In October, the nonprofit Seeds of Strength will begin an application process to determine which charities serving the city of Georgetown will receive a portion of more than $1 million of grant funding.

Seeds of Strength, founded in 2010, is a women’s philanthropic group that awards grants to nonprofit organizations operating in Georgetown, increases awareness of community needs, and allows women to engage socially, according to a news release issued Thursday by the organization.

The group prioritizes grants for groups that work to improve arts and culture, health, family, education and financial security in Georgetown.

Last year's grant winners included Habitat for Humanity of Williamson County, Girlstart, R.O.C.K. (Ride on Center for Kids), Hope Alliance and AGE of Central Texas. Grant requests typically range from $10,000 to $25,000, according to Seeds of Strength.

Seeds of Strength also offers "seedling grants," which are awarded to new nonprofits and aim to increase the number of organizations serving Georgetown residents.

Grant applicants must first submit a letter of intent, the template for which will be released by Seeds of Strength on Oct. 2. Letters must be submitted by Nov. 17, according to the organization.

Applicants are encouraged to attend a training workshop from 10 a.m.-noon on Oct. 18 at the Georgetown Health Foundation, Community Room A, 2423 Williams Drive, Georgetown.
