Georgetown’s disaster declaration will continue until Nov. 14 unless terminated. City Council approved the motion at the June 9 meeting.

The November date was chosen to align with the end of term for the mayor and District 2 and District 6 seats. Continuing the declaration
provides authority to the mayor to implement special rules or adjust operations if needed, City Manager David Morgan said previously. It also increases liability protection for the city and any volunteers or others acting on the city’s behalf in response to the disaster, allows for a formal assistance request from the state and federal government, and is tied to justification for emergency funds and grant applications.

Mayor Dale Ross first declared the local state of disaster March 14 due to the coronavirus. Williamson County ended the countywide declaration May 19.
