Here's what you need to know what from Tuesday's City Council meeting:

Garey Park and Garey House contracts OK'd
Two construction contracts to renovate Garey House and construct Garey Park were unanimously approved. Ritter-Botkin Prime Construction Co. Inc. of Pflugerville was awarded a more than $10 million contract to construct Garey Park, which will include a splash pad and dog park as well as hiking and equestrian trails. The Garey House renovation project was awarded to the same company for $589,350.

Construction is expected to break ground in March, with the park opening in spring 2018. Around $15 million in funds are available from the 2008 parks bond and a donation from Jack Garey.

Fixed-route bus system update
During the workshop portion of Tuesday's City Council meeting, Transportation Analyst Nat Waggoner gave an update concerning the fixed-route bus system coming to Georgetown in the fall.

Waggoner said name and logo development for the system as well as fare management concerning rates and collection are still underway. Waggoner also informed the council of the expected timeline to get the bus system running.

Upcoming dates:

  • March 14: City Council workshop concerning system name, branding and public engagement

  • March 21: public meeting at Georgetown Public Library

  • March 28: City Council workshop

  • April 11: City Council workshop and consideration for final approval of name, implementation, etc.

  • Aug. 21: grand opening of fixed-route bus system
