Williamson County The county received federal funding in December to construct a fuel-redu-ction zone around the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park.
County officials sought grant funding after wildfires destroyed portions of the state in 2011. The federal program will pay 75 percent of the cost to create 4 miles of shaded fuel break around the perimeter of the park to prevent the spread of wildfires to surrounding homes.
The project is estimated to cost $480,000. Work on the fuel break will start in October, and county officials expect it to be finished in July 2017.
