According to a news release from Pflugerville ISD, a juvenile student of Pflugerville High School was taken into custody, charged with first-degree arson and transported to the Gardner Betts Juvenile Detention Center. PfISD stated that the fire was an isolated incident, but the investigation into the matter remains ongoing.

The Pflugerville Fire Department was dispatched to Pflugerville High School this morning where a small fire burned in a bathroom.

The fire was reported around 8:45 a.m., prior to the start of the school day. Students were evacuated and held at Kuempel Stadium, located adjacent to the high school so that emergency responders could extinguish the fire and investigate the cause. According to Terri Toledo, public information officer with the city of Pflugerville, a suspicious object was found at the site of the fire, but no details were provided by the city or the school district as to the nature of the object.

The Pflugerville Police Department is investigating the incident and did speak with students today hoping to get more insight into the situation.

According to a city spokesperson, no students or staff were injured, and classes were not canceled. Students were allowed to return to class at approximately 2:45 p.m.
