College preparatory school St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, 6500 St. Stephen’s Drive, Austin, opened the Spartan Fitness and Wellness Center at a dedication ceremony Sept. 7.

The new facility includes an additional 4,700 square feet of space that expanded the school gym, increasing the total building size to 8,400 square feet. The center added a weights and exercise equipment space, training suite with a cold tub, an injury assessment and rehabilitation area, conference room and office space for coaches.

Outside gathering spaces, walkways and a new, lower campus entrance were added.

“The Spartan Fitness and Wellness Center will allow us to address the changing needs of a new generation of student-athletes into the near and distant future,” Athletics Director Jon McCain said. “We now have the added advantage of addressing current needs within existing programs in areas that more fully allow us to develop faster and stronger athletes while focusing on injury-prevention programming.”

The project was funded by the St. Stephen’s $27.3 million Frame the Future capital campaign.
