Southwest Austin residents can ask questions at three upcoming forums about Austin ISD's process and timeline for how the board of trustees will appoint an interim District 7 representative.
The first forum is at 7 p.m. on Sept. 15 at Bowie High School; the second is at noon on Sept. 17 at Covington Middle School; the third is at 11 a.m. on Sept. 19 at Baranoff Elementary School. All three forums are tentative.
The League of Women Voters will be moderating all three public question-and-answer sessions, board President Gina Hinojosa said during the regularly scheduled Aug. 31 board meeting.
The board approved the timeline and application for candidates during the Aug. 25 special board meeting. It was established then that candidates who are interested must submit an application by Sept. 8 at 5 p.m.
Trustees plan to vote on an appointee during the Sept. 28 board meeting.
The appointee will serve on the board on an interim basis until a permanent trustee wins the District 7 election in November 2016.
District 7 trustee Robert Schneider, who won an election for the seat in November 2014, was slated to serve for four years but died on July 28, which caused a vacancy on the board.
