Since its March opening on Cypress Creek Road in Cedar Park, Local Slice Pizza has become more popular than its family of owners said they expected.

Owners David and Erica Huynh and other family members have been in the restaurant business for a total of 31 years. Previously they owned a sports bar and a sushi bar and grill, Erica said.

"We're doing a lot better than we thought," she said. "This is somewhat new to us, as in pizza."

The restaurant offers delivery and takeout as well as a small area for dining. But with positive word of mouth spreading about Local Slice's flavorful pizza—especially among families and nearby businesses—Local Slice's owners said they are considering opening new locations in Cedar Park. That may include a restaurant near John Gupton Stadium at Vista Ridge High School, Erica said.

Local Slice uses fresh and local ingredients to make all its offerings, such as the 5 Hour Hawaiian pizza with pork, pineapple and basil, and the Sweet Baby BBQ Chicken pizza. Mozzarella cheese comes in large blocks that cooks shred, Manager Tamara Gates said.

Employees also emphasize going the extra mile during catering events and deliveries, Gates said. Drivers will deliver in Cedar Park within a 5-mile radius of the store. Unlike at some other restaurants, freshly baked pizzas go directly from the oven to the cutting table, then inside the box and out the door, she said.

"It's not waiting there for someone to come back and deliver it," Gates said. "[It] keeps the crust really crisp."

Gluten-free crusts as well as beers and organic sodas are among the pizza shop's other features.

"We just have a lot of really great, steady customers," Gates said.
