Construction of the first phase of residential units in the 700-acre Goodnight mixed-use subdivision began Aug. 30, and move-in for the first residents may happen by the end of 2016, according to developer Austin Goodnight Ranch, a collaboration between Benchmark Development and members of the Goodnight family.

For the first phase, homebuilders plan to construct 104 single-family homes, nine duplexes and 90 townhouses, according to Austin Goodnight Ranch.

Homebuilders for Goodnight's first phase include:

  • Centerra Homes, building 58 single-family homes in the 1,500- to 2,000-square-foot range, starting in the $240,000 range

  • M/I Homes, building 46 single-family homes in the 1,700- to 2,700-square-foot range, starting in the $260,000 range; and

  • AVI Homes, building nine duplexes for a total of 18 units, starting in the $220,000 range, and 90 townhouses.

The first phase also calls for 35 acres of trails and green space designed and developed by TBG Partners.

Goodnight, located in Southeast Austin off East Slaughter Lane, borders the Onion Creek Metropolitan Park and is planned to include pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly features, 225,600 square feet of retail, business space and land for a future Austin ISD school. The long-term plan for the development is to include about 3,500 housing units.

“We’re honored to bring the Goodnight family’s vision to life by creating a thoughtfully designed community that will accommodate the growing needs of the Central Texas area," Benchmark Development Vice President Myra Goepp said. "Our hope is that Goodnight can naturally mature into a walkable center of attention and activity for Austinites of all ages.”
