Site work began Sept. 14 on The Range at Austin, a facility that will include range shooting, firearms and accessories for sale as well as training and private event space, spokesperson Scott Dunaway said.

The space at 8503 S. I-35, which is south of William Cannon Drive and just north of the Home Depot located near the Slaughter Lane and I-35 intersection, was previously a vacant lot, Dunaway said.

When doors open in summer 2016, the site will be home to a 52,000-square-foot range featuring 37 rifle lanes including five 100-yard rifle lanes that offer video capture of both the target and shooter.

Chris Onufrak will serve as the facility’s general manager. Alex Bosco and Grant Shaw founded The Range at Austin.

“The Range at Austin will provide customers the opportunity to demo a wide variety of firearms from pistols to machine guns in a controlled setting with instruction and oversight on how to use [them],” Dunaway said in a Sept. 17 news release.

He said the range’s second floor will house 10,700 square feet of space that is open only to members, who will pay monthly dues to access amenities such as a cigar room, café service and private parking.

Austin-based Sabre Commercial is the general contractor. Action Target will oversee the range’s design and development, and Clayton & Little is the architecture firm. More information is available at www.therangeaustin.com
