The city of Plano has greenlighted a project to construct up to four high-rise office towers across the street from the Legacy West mixed-use development.

Plano City Council on June 24 approved a zoning change to make way for the office project. Representatives for Trammell Crow Co., the developer behind the project, did not immediately reply to requests for a project timeline.

The first phase of the project is expected to include three office towers of 25, 22 and 12 stories in height southwest of where Legacy Drive meets Communications Parkway, according to plans filed with the city. The plans include a fourth tower 12 stories tall and multiple parking garages.

Although Trammell Crow could have already built office towers this tall on the property, the new zoning allows the developer to build the towers closer to the street than would have been allowed under the previous rules. It also allows the developer more flexibility on how to position these buildings on the property’s various lots.

The vote was Plano City Council’s first zoning change since the June 8 runoffs, when Council Members Lily Bao and Shelby Williams won seats on the council and brought to a close the 2019 municipal election season. The council approved the proposal by an 8-0 vote.
