City officials, donors, and park-goers filled the Play For All Park located at 151 N. A.W. Grimes Blvd. in Round Rock Aug. 3 to celebrate the announcement of a planned expansion that will double the size of the park.

Millions of people have visited the park since its opening in 2011, and its popularity has continued to grow, resulting in the need for expansion, according to a statement from the city. Wag-A-Bag co-owners Nancy Rabb and her son Cary Rabb, who donated the land on which the park was built, were in attendance and expressed their gratitude.

“My late husband, Virg Rabb, said, 'If the city had this land, they could do something wonderful with it,'” Nancy Rabb said. “And that’s what happened; the city has done something wonderful.”

The expansion will consist of several additional play spaces designed for people of a variety of ages and abilities to use, in addition to expanding and improving existing play spaces and park features.

An adventure pod with an adventure hill and net climber, and a wheelchair-friendly track, built with the theme of an F1 racetrack with pit-stop are a few of the features that park officials and private donors hope the expansion will include. A large, shaded picnic area and an additional parking lot with both car and bus parking are also in the plans.

The Round Rock city council has committed to approving a sizable donation to help with funding the expansion, and the Rabb family has donated land for the expansion, but the expansion will rely on a partnership between the city and donations from private businesses and residents to become a reality.

“We can make this happen,” said Round Rock City Council Member Craig Morgan, addressing the crowd. “We are known for this, so let’s contribute, let’s be good partners, let’s make it happen.”

Businesses, families, and individual donors can visit  www.play4all.org, or the Round Rock Parks and Recreation website to make online tax-deductible donations toward the park expansion, or download contribution forms.
