The Gaines Greenbelt is roughly 21 acres that the city of Sunset Valley has deeded for conservation and recreation, according to Travis County documents.

It is home to the endangered golden-cheeked warbler and will become part of the Violet Crown Trail.

On Dec. 17, Sunset Valley City Council approved joining the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan.

On Jan. 7, the Travis County Commissioners Court approved an agreement making Sunset Valley a managing partner in the conservation plan.

As part of the agreement, the Gaines Greenbelt will be managed at the same standards as the preserve.
