Democratic candidate Greg Casar won the nomination for U.S. Congressional District 35. Republicans Dan McQueen and Michael Rodriguez will head into a run off after receiving 21.2% and 15% of votes respectively.

Former Austin City Council Member Greg Casar is leading the Democratic primary for the 35th Congressional District based on preliminary vote totals.


Casar has 14,744 votes, or 58.34% of the total. Eddie Rodriguez has 4,199 votes, or 16.61%; Rebecca Viagran has 4,408 votes, or 17.44%; and Carla-Joy Sisco has 1,922 votes, or 7.60%.

The seat is currently held by Lloyd Doggett who is running for U.S. District 37 in this election.

Out of the 10 Republicans vying for the seat, Dan McQueen has a slight lead with 1,546 votes, or 21.25% of the total, in the Republican primary.
