The first flight at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s upcoming South Terminal takes off April 13.

On Wednesday officials from LoneStar Airport Holdings, the private company operating the terminal, walked members of the media through the 30,000-square-foot facility, which is expected to accommodate between 200,000 and 300,000 departing passengers in its first year.

“We are delivering much-needed capacity for this airport,” said Jeff Pearse, CEO of LoneStar Airport Holdings. “This is a good stopgap measure for them while they continue construction of the nine-gate expansion at the Barbara Jordan terminal.”

Carriers operating in the terminal include Allegiant Airlines and Texas Sky. Allegiant, a low-cost carrier, will service flights to Albuquerque, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Memphis, Orlando/Sanford, Pittsburgh and Tampa/St. Petersburg.

Texas Sky will service charter flights from Victoria Regional Airport in Victoria, Texas. More carriers will be announced in the future.

The new terminal at 10000 Logistics Lane, Austin, has a separate entrance from the Barbara Jordan Terminal off East State Hwy. 71. The South Terminal is accessible from US 183. From US 183, motorists can take Burleson Road to Emma Browning Avenue to reach the terminal, which features 1,000 parking spaces for the same price passengers pay to park at the Barbara Jordan Terminal, $7 per day.

With the increasing demand for service at ABIA, Pearse said there is a potential for the South Terminal to outgrow its space pretty quickly.

“What we would do then is partner with the Department of Aviation here at the city of Austin and think about, ‘What is next phase of development?’" Pearse said. "It could be incremental growth of this terminal, or it might be a completely new terminal here on the south side of the airport.”
