As a response to the coronavirus pandemic, small businesses in Cedar Park may be able to receive assistance from the city if City Council approves an agreement at its April 9 meeting.

Cedar Park City Council will consider an agreement with the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce to provide up to $10,000 in financial assistance to each eligible small business, according to the meeting agenda.

Assistance would be available as grants for up to $5,000 or as loans for up to $10,000. The program would provide up to $200,000 to the businesses from the Economic Development (Type A) Corp.

To be eligible, small businesses must demonstrate a need for funds and meet the following requirements, according to the agenda:

  • be located within the corporate limits of Cedar Park and must be in current compliance with the city of Cedar Park Code of Ordinances, including all applicable zoning and land use ordinances;

  • not a home-based business;

  • not a sole proprietor;

  • has been in business for at least 12 months;

  • employs fewer than 25 full-time or full-time-equivalent employees;

  • has endured a 25% or greater reduction in sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic;

  • has applied for a Small Business Administration loan or other type of loan from a certified financial institution; and

  • is not a nonprofit.

City Council will also hold a public hearing to suspend the effective date for Atmos Energy by 45 days, discuss the local state of disaster declaration and receive an update on activities by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization.

City Council will meet by teleconference. The public may watch the meeting online, and people wishing to speak must fill out an online comment card.
