With their two locations at capacity, the owners of Viva Day Spa saw a need to open in North Austin.

The spa will join the new Rock Rose development under construction in The Domain that features a plethora of other local businesses such as Birds Barbershop, East Side King, Kung Fu Saloon and Tarka Indian Kitchen. Co-owners Laurie Aroch, Maya Aroch and Shannon Mouser will open the new location, 11601 Rock Rose Ave., Ste. 120,  in March.

“So many of our guests were asking us to go north,” Mouser said.

Even though the first phase of The Domain owned by Simon Property Group already features a locally owned spa, Spa Reveil, the owners said they welcome the competition. Like Spa Reveil, they will be partnering with one of The Domain hotels—Archer Hotel Austin set to open in late summer—to offer their services to guests.

“The Domain has grown so much—there’s enough business to go around,” Mouser said.

The first Viva Day Spa opened on 35th Street in 2005, and the second one opened in 2008 on South Lamar Boulevard. Mouser said what sets them apart from other spas is the business is owned by practitioners.

“We take care of our guests and our employees,” she said. “That’s what [has] brought us our success.”

The new location will be similar to the existing locations with manicure and pedicure stations, massage and aesthetician rooms, showers, saunas, and relaxation lounges. It also will have two floors and a salt wall that will emit positive ions.

“The rooms are designed differently and in different shapes for a different experience [each time],” Laurie Aroch said.

They also will offer Ashiatsu massage in which the massage therapist uses her feet instead of hands for the massage. This offering required constructing bars on the ceiling to support the massage therapist, Mouser said.

In 2016, the owners plan to announce other new services Viva Day Spa will also offer.

Viva Day Spa began with five employees and now has 85 employees, many of whom have been with Viva for several years. The growth of the company is because the owners said their aim is to create a drama-free environment that may be lacking at other businesses.

“Once people come to work for Viva, very rarely do they leave,” Maya Aroch said. “… We look for a cultural fit. It’s not just about the experience they have.”
