The American fascination with "Beatlemania" comes into focus as part of a new LBJ Presidential Library exhibit that debuts this month.

A new exhibit called "Ladies and Gentlemen ... The Beatles!" explores the band's impact on American pop culture and the music industry. The special section opens at 9 a.m. June 13 as part of a free, family-friendly event that includes Beatles cover band The Eggmen and local food trucks.

Until June 29, the showcase also features a Gibson J-160E guitar once owned by Beatles member John Lennon. The guitar had been missing for more than 50 years and is being displayed for the first time ever in Austin.

LBJ Presidential Library Director Mark Updegrove said the exhibit provides local residents a reason to revisit the museum.

"In so many ways, the Beatles captured the Zeitgeist of America at the time," Updegrove said, noting the famed British band first toured America only three months after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and Lyndon B. Johnson took office. "They allowed us in kind of a way to move on as a country."

The traveling exhibit will then remain on-hand at The University of Texas campus through Jan. 10.
