United Way for Greater Austin recognized Westlake-area businesses for their philanthropic efforts at its annual Employee Campaign Awards reception May 7.

The Four Points and Lake Travis chambers of commerce featured speakers who focused on regional drought and water conditions.

Las Hermanas Ice Cream


Sisters Nina (left) and Julia Mewborne, students at West Austin’s St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, founded Las Hermanas Ice Cream Truck and began donating profits to the Alzheimer’s Association in May.

Walk to Wellness Campaign


Hank Mol, exercises at the Querencia at Barton Creek fitness center. The 81-year-old participated in the Walk to Wellness Campaign this spring to raise awareness of the need to remain active and exercise.

Adopt a Visitation Room


The Lake Travis-area Cub Scout Pack 440 and Girl Scout troops 1896 and 712 renovated visitation rooms used by families in Travis County’s Child Protective Services. The work was done May 2-16.
