Northwest Austin-based HomeAway will rebrand to Vrbo

Expedia Group announced May 2 that HomeAway, an international vacation rental agency with offices in Domain Northside, will rebrand to Vrbo. HomeAway acquired the Vrbo brand in 2006.

“We’re changing our name because Vrbo is our strongest brand,” Vrbo President John Kim said in a May 2 press release. “The talent we’ve attracted and culture we’ve built in Austin lays the foundation for what’s next and will continue to be what helps us achieve success for many years to come.”

Then HomeAway, the company announced in June 2017 that it signed a lease to move into 315,000-square-foot, 16-story Domain office tower currently under construction at 11800 Alterra Parkway, Austin. According to Vrbo public relations manager Alison Kwong, the corporate headquarters for Vrbo will open this summer.

Those offices have the capacity to house up to 2,000 employees, though HomeAway Chief Product Officer Tina Weyand has previously said the company intends to keep its offices in downtown Austin and South Congress open as well.

In 2016, Expedia Group completed its acquisition of HomeAway for $3.9 billion.
