Recent updates

1. Austin Avenue intersections

Crews were wrapping up a series of projects in early June along Austin Avenue between 10th and 11th streets. Work includes installation of new curbs, crosswalks and utility-related infrastructure. The project required some lane closures along Austin Ave.

2. Northwest Boulevard bridge

Georgetown City Council awarded a construction contract for the new bridge to Chasco Constructors of Round Rock in May. The bridge and road project will add a four-lane extension of Northwest Boulevard that will cross I-35 between the future northern terminus of Rivery Boulevard and Austin Avenue. The project is designed to relieve traffic congestion on Austin and Williams Drive.

Cost: $8.1 million
Funding sources: 2015 Georgetown road bond

3. Rivery Boulevard extension

Roadway base material installation is complete on a project to extend Rivery Boulevard to the north from Williams Drive to Northwest Boulevard. Crews have nearly finished installing curbs, gutters and utility-related components of the future road section.

Cost: $5.1 million

Ongoing projects

4. City Council approved about $150,000 in additional funding in May for the Austin Avenue bridges rehabilitation project in order to complete preliminary planning and environmental clearance documents. The project will repair both bridge spans that cross the San Gabriel River north of downtown Georgetown and will add a new pedestrian bridge. City transportation officials estimated the project’s total cost at about $6.8 million. Aside from the city’s budget, the project’s funding sources could include the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization or the Texas Department of Transportation.

Timeline: public hearings expected in 2020

5. Design work reached its final stages in May for a future project that will rebuild a 0.75-mile section of Rabbit Hill Road between Westinghouse Road and Clearview Drive. Crews also began preliminary environmental work ahead of the construction project’s start.

6. Williamson County is funding a $19.8 million extension of the Southwest Bypass that will connect a new 1.25-mile segment of roadway between Leander Road and the southbound I-35 frontage road. A north section of the bypass, which was a separate project funded by the city of Georgetown, opened in July 2018.
