FM 529 improvements

The Texas Department of Transportation held a public hearing April 30 to consider public recommendations on the expansion of FM 529 from Grand Parkway to FM 362, where crashes are higher than the statewide average, before requesting project approval and funding, TxDOT consultant Roy Knowles said. Plans include expanding the existing two-lane undivided roadway with additional lanes and a median, but the final design has not been selected yet. A date for a second public hearing will be announced later this year.

Katy Flewellen Road expansion

Katy Flewellen Road from Willow Lane to Gaston Road is being widened from a two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane concrete road with underground storm water drainage. All of the right of way has been cleared, but the road is not yet under construction. Fort Bend County Engineer Stacy Slawinski said they are waiting for private utility providers to move the power lines and telephone cables back about 20 feet.

Peek Road widening

The two-lane asphalt roadway between Clay and Stockdick School roads will be transformed into a four-lane concrete boulevard. Harris County Project Manager Eric Heppen said the project will be constructed in two segments. The first segment from 500 feet north of Clay Road to 300 feet north of Grand Ventana Drive began May 13 and will take approximately six to seven months to complete. The second half from 300 feet north of Grand Ventana Drive to north of Stockdick Road will be bid once all needed property has been acquired, and a construction schedule will be determined later.

Timeline: Phase 1: April 2019-fourth quarter 2019. Phase 2: TBD
Cost: $5.5 million- $6.5 million

Greenbusch Road reconstruction

Greenbusch Road from Ensley Hollow Drive to Westheimer Parkway will be reconstructed from a two-lane asphalt roadway with open ditches to a two-lane concrete road with an underground storm water drainage system, Slawinski said. This project will improve safety for the nearby school traffic. Construction is planned to begin in the fall.

Cost: $6.8 million
Funding sources: Fort Bend County
