Greenbusch Road closes, I-10 receives new pavement marking: 4 Katy-area transportation updates to know for April

Work continues on various mobility projects in the Katy area.

Greenbusch Road closure

Fort Bend County closed an approximately 0.25-mile portion of Greenbusch Road from Gaston Road to immediately east of Ensley Hollow Drive on April 3 as crews work to widen the two-lane asphalt road into a four-lane concrete road with a median and stormwater drainage, county engineer Stacy Slawinski said. The road will be closed until June 7. The project was added to the Gaston widening project from Greenbusch to Katy Flewellen Road. The Greenbusch project has contributed about $462,000 to the total cost, now at $6.8 million.

New I-10 pavement markings

An approximately 2.6-mile section of I-10 from just east of Pin Oak Road to just west of Cane Island Parkway will receive new pavement markings, said Dock Gee, Texas Department of Transportation engineer. The project will require temporary closures at night of two lanes on the interstate as construction crews remove the existing markings and install the new markings.

Katy Flewellen Road widening

Construction crews have finished moving fences on the right of way on Katy Flewellen Road between Gaston Road and Spring Green Boulevard and continue to relocate utilities, Slawinski said. Road construction will not begin until mid-2019 to widen Katy Flewellen from a two-lane asphalt roadway to a four-lane concrete boulevard with a median. Road construction will take about nine months to complete.

Porter Road reconstruction

Porter Road is being rebuilt from Franz Road to Morton Ranch Road. From Franz to a bridge about a half-mile north, traffic has switched to new concrete, Harris County engineer Jennifer Almonte said. Crews are finishing the east side storm sewer and will then pour more concrete up to the bridge. From the bridge to Morton, crews have completed installing the storm sewer. They are removing the existing road and will soon begin placing concrete on the west side. When complete, 20-foot-wide asphalt Porter will be a 28-foot-wide concrete roadway with an underground storm sewer system.
