7 new restaurants open in Central Austin


New restaurants and bars seem to open nearly every day in Central Austin. Here are seven places that opened in November and December—from a taco favorite to a whiskey bar—to put on your radar.

Easy Tiger

Downtown bake shop and beer garden Easy Tiger opened a second location Dec. 8 at 6406 N. I-35, Ste. 1100, Austin, in the Linc development. The outpost includes a drive-thru coffee bar, a 150-seat outdoor pavilion, a dog park, an outdoor stage for live music event and pingpong tables. 512-614-4972. www.easytigeraustin.com

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Ice House, a whiskey lounge and patio bar, opened Nov. 24 at 701 W. Sixth St., Austin. Co-owned by Kahran Espili, the bar was originally scheduled to open in 2015. 512-710-8988. www.wtficehouse.com

House of the Rising Tanuki-San

An Aspen-based restaurant serving Asian street food with a Southern twist, House of the Rising Tanuki-San opened Nov. 7 at 120 W. Fifth St., Austin, in the space previously occupied by BaseCamp. DuMont’s Down Low

A new whiskey bar from the restaurant group behind Mean Eyed Cat, DuMont’s Down Low opened Nov. 16 at 214 W. Fourth St., Ste. B, Austin, in the basement of the space previously occupied by Fado Irish Pub. Its name is an ode to Blanche DuMont, an Austin businesswoman in the late 1800s. 512-291-3231. www.dumontsaustin.com

Torchy’s Tacos

Austin-based chain Torchy’s Tacos opened Dec. 11 in the Northshore building at 110 San Antonio St., Ste. 120, Austin. The company has more than 60 locations across Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. 512-792-5909. www.torchystacos.com

Carpenters Hall

The restaurant at the newly opened Carpenter Hotel at 400 Josephine St., Austin, opened Nov. 2 in the main hall of the former union building. Grae Nonas, a co-founding chef of Southern fine dining restaurant Olamaie, has developed a menu that includes chicken schnitzel, seafood fritto misto and griddle burgers. 512-682-5300. www.carpenterhotel.com

Kerbey Lane Cafe

The local restaurant chain opened its eighth location Dec. 7 at 2200 Aldrich St., Ste. 100, Austin. The iconic Austin eatery opened its first location on Kerbey Lane in North Austin in 1980. 512-879-2818. www.kerbeylanecafe.com
