A new office building on Capital One’s Plano campus will accommodate about 1,000-1,200 employees, said Sanjiv Yajnik, Capital One Financial Services president, at the groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 8.

The 205,000 square-foot Building 7 will be located at 8058 Dominion Parkway. It is an addition to the six office buildings and a conference center on the financial company’s Plano campus. Construction of the new building is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2017.

“I always come to work in my cowboy boots because you never know what you might have to do,” Yajnik said referring to lifting dirt for groundbreaking ceremony.

Capital One’s Plano campus is currently home to about 5,900 employees. The four-story building will have six training rooms, a full-service cafeteria and game room in addition to the office space. Construction is expected to be complete in early 2017.

More than 550 parking spaces will be added toward the north end of Capital One’s campus for employees who will work in Building 7. Dallas-based GFF Architects are the architects for the new building. They also designed Capital One’s Conference Center on the Plano Campus.

The campus buildings currently cover 75 acres on Dominion Parkway and Hedgecoxe Road. About 1.3 million square feet of construction includes six buildings dedicated to offices, one building for a conference center and parking garages.

In 2008, Capital One Financial Services moved its financial services division headquarters from Virginia to Plano.

“We have about 500 open positions right now and we continue to expand,” Yajnik said. “By the time the building is constructed it will already be spoken for.”

Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony congratulating Capital One for the new building.

“We have seen incredible growth in Plano. This beautiful campus is an extension of the vision that Sanjiv has,” LaRosiliere said.

LaRosiliere said Capital One’s Plano campus was an example of corporate citizens collaborating with community members in the city.

“We look forward to moving some dirt,” he said, before heading out of the tent for the groundbreaking ceremony.

State Sen. Van Taylor, R-Plano, asked the audience to remember the company and the city’s humble beginnings and to keep working toward a secure future.

“We are sitting in these seats because of the work that our ancestors did,” he said. “It is incumbent on us to make decisions so that our future generations can sit in these seats.”
