Here are 6 things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands.

1. Conroe ISD officials are expected to select names for two new schools in the Oak Ridge feeder zone Tuesday night. The district received 146 name suggestions for the new campuses during a public input period this summer. The elementary school is slated to open near Birnham Woods next August, and the new high school will open off the Grand Parkway near Woodson’s Reserve in 2018.

2. The Woodlands Township set its 2017 property tax rate last week at 23 cents, which remains unchanged from this year. However, it is 1 cent higher than the effective tax rate, so some residents may still experience a higher tax bill. The average home worth $439,000 in The Woodlands will see an increase of approximately $30 next year in taxes.

The price of a ticket, which start at $45, gets attendees unlimited samples from all the participating barbecue restaurants, a handful of which include CorkScrew BBQ, Tejas Chocolate, Goode Company Barbecue and The Pit Room. www.thewoodlandsbbq.com

4. Those who enjoy watching rowers glide across Lake Woodlands are in luck this week. Beginning Thursday, the annual YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge will feature more than 100 teams competing at Northshore Park, and the public is invited to cheer them along during the four-day event. www.ymcadragonboat.org

5. Montgomery County residents who want to vote in the Nov. 8 election have three weeks left to register to vote. The deadline is Oct. 11, and unregistered individuals can visit www.mctx.org/election to register. Curious who is on the ballot for The Woodlands Township board of directors this fall? Nine candidates are in the running.

6. The new customs facility at Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport celebrates its grand opening this Thursday. Airport staff said the new facility is expected to encourage more international business in Montgomery County.
