Here are 6 things to know this week if you live in The Woodlands:

1. The Woodlands Township fiscal year 2016-17 budget will be up for adoption at 6 p.m. Wednesday during a special meeting. The proposed budget includes a combined $4.5 million for future incorporation efforts and maintains the same tax rate at 23 cents per $100 valuation.

3. Montgomery County residents will see a larger tax rate reduction for 2017 than originally expected. A 1-cent reduction was factored into the new budget before it was approved last week as a way to reduce the burden of rising home appraisal values on homeowners.

4. The city of Shenandoah will continue discussions Wednesday regarding a possible charter committee. If residents decide by a referendum to transition to a home-rule city when the community reaches a population of 5,000, it will need to draft a city charter. Eight residents have applied for the committee, and City Council is expected to select individual appointments during its meeting this week.
