Oak Ridge North’s City Council meeting on Monday night updated residents on upcoming workshops, council member resignations and construction projects happening in the city.

Here are the four major items established at last night’s meeting:

1. Tom Coale resignation

Council Member Tom Coale announced his unofficial resignation from his position on City Council, citing personal commitments and time constraints. The Oak Ridge North City Council will officially consider the resignation at its January 23 regular council meeting.

2. Robinson Road workshop

A date was set for the next Robinson Road preliminary engineering workshop. The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at City Hall. The findings of the study will show the layout of the road and the effect the proposed project would have on properties and traffic.

3. Police building and generator installation

Oak Ridge North City Council approved $85,000 for utility services and a new generator to serve the new police building and City Hall. The council also voted to upsize the existing gas service at City Hall to accommodate the generator. Installation of the building and generator will be underway for the next six weeks.

"Currently, the generator we have is not adequate," building official John Beisert said.

Council Member Tom Coale said the overall planning of utility services in the buildings by Beisert was a job well done.

"I think he has done an excellent job of putting this together and moving forward," Coale said.

4. Hotel development

A site plan has been submitted for a second hotel in Oak Ridge North, which will be located adjacent to iFLY on I-45. City officials said the developer intends to close on the property in late January. Crown Plaza Hotel is also awaiting a drainage easement agreement from AT&T.

Council meetings for Oak Ridge North are held at 7 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of the month at Oak Ridge North City Hall.
