Lieutenant Raymond Shaw was named the acting police chief effective immediately. He joined the Shenandoah Police Department in 1997. Prior to joining the Shenandoah Police Department, Shaw also served with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Constable Office. He has been a lieutenant since his appointment in 2014.

Chancellor is retiring with approximately 31 years of experience in law enforcement under his belt. He served with the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 office as well as the Montgomery County Constable’s Office before joining the Shenandoah Police Department.

He assumed the role of Shenandoah Chief of Police on Dec. 2, 1996 and has held that title for the past 20 years.

“During Chief Chancellor’s tenure, the city saw dramatic growth in the commercial sector, which required the police department to adapt to the changing needs of the city,” City Administrator Greg Smith said. “Chief Chancellor led the transition and growth of the department during this shift from a community with mostly residential to one with residential and commercial service areas. Given the city’s location on I-45, along with the growth of south Montgomery County over the last 20 years, the SPD met the challenges that came from increased population, traffic and crime.”

Prior to his career in law enforcement, Chancellor served with the Houston Fire Department.

“Our hope is for the continued professionalism, expertise and high standard of customer service in law enforcement for our residents, businesses and visitors,” Smith said.
