A second Grand Parkway Marketplace shopping center has been announced for the intersection of Spring Stuebner and Kuykendahl roads near the Grand Parkway.

Grand Parkway Marketplace developer Kimco Realty announced in early 2016 that Grand Parkway Marketplace II is under development. The two anchors, Hobby Lobby and Academy Sports + Outdoors, committed to the site. The center is located on a 35-acre parcel adjacent to Grand Parkway Marketplace I, Kimco Central Region President Rob Nadler said.

“We’re going to build the shops in phases there based on demand,” Nadler said. “Hobby Lobby and Academy are scheduled to open in late summer of 2017—probably around July or August.”Hobby Lobby, Academy to anchor second Grand Parkway Marketplace center

In March, it was announced that the Grand Parkway Marketplace—now called Grand Parkway Marketplace I—was to be constructed at the corner of the Grand Parkway and Kuykendahl Road in Spring with Target as the anchor. It is due to be completed by the end of 2017.

Nadler said the Grand Parkway Marketplace II will include 35-40 shops to be built in phases. It will include three anchor stores and resemble Grand Parkway Marketplace I.

Although the third anchor for Grand Parkway Marketplace II has not been identified yet, Nadler said it could be up to 50,000 square feet. Additional tenants have been confirmed, Nadler said, but Kimco is not ready to announce yet what the stores will be.

Construction on the second shopping center has begun, he said. The site is cleared and next month the civil work—utilities, grading of the site, topography and detention area—will begin, with construction on Academy to begin in January.

Nadler said Kimco decided to develop Grand Parkway Marketplace II because of continued demand in
that area.

“We took advantage of the interest level that we knew was out there with Marketplace I and tremendous visibility along Kuykendahl,” he said.

Nadler said a pass-through road has been engineered that will connect both shopping centers. The pass-through  has received Harris County approval.

“Both properties will relate very well and function as one large shopping center for the whole community,” he said.

Grand Parkway Marketplace I will include 60 stores and be open by the end of 2017 with Target opening in the middle of March. Tenants include DSW, Blaze Pizza, and Marble Slab Creamery as well as other food, service, medical and specialty retail operations.
