With 30 out of 30 precincts reporting, incumbent Republican Gary Elkins won the race for the District 135 state representative with 32,664 votes, or 54.86 percent, compared to opponent Democrat Jesse Ybanez, who garnered 26,873 votes, or 45.14 percent. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Incumbent Gary Elkins declares victory in District 135 state representative race

With 24 out of 30 precincts reporting, incumbent Republican Gary Elkins declared victory in the District 135 state representative race with 31,631 votes, or 55.32 percent, compared to opponent Democrat Jesse Ybanez, who garnered 25,554 votes, or 44.68 percent. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Elkins said he is grateful to constituents and will be focusing on school finance and property tax issues to find solutions to major challenges.

"What my people tell me is that they want to be left alone," Elkins said. "There are only three types of bills, ones that tax, ones that regulate and ones that take away freedoms. I want to thank the constituents of District 135 for re-electing me."

Incumbent Gary Elkins leads race for District 135 State Rep. seat

According to unofficial early voting results, Incumbent Gary Elkins is leading the vote for the District 135 state representative with 25,203 votes, or 55.80 percent, compared to opponent Jesse Ybanez, who has gained 19,965 votes, or 44.20 percent. All results are unofficial until canvassed.

Incumbent Gary Elkins, Jesse Ybanez compete for District 135 State rep. seat

Incumbent Republican Gary Elkins and Democrat Jesse Ybanez are the two candidates vying for State Representative in District 135.

Elkins has served District 135 since 1995. He said if re-elected his top priorities would be traffic congestion, border security, local control in schools and property tax reduction.

Ybanez said if elected his top priorities would be school funding, health care and listening to constituents.

Ybanez is a U.S. Navy veteran is a member of the state Democratic Executive Committee. He has also served as precinct chair, an election judge and as Senate District 7 section leader.

District 135 covers parts of Houston, Cypress and Jersey Village.
