In mid-June, McKinney resident Megan Carney was asked to become a member of the U.S. Women's Under 19 Lacrosse Team. The team is made up of 18 athletes from across the nation.

Carney will play her first game with the national team during a championship tournament Aug. 1-10 in Ontario, Canada. She said she made the team after a yearlong tryout process.

Carney, who plays lacrosse for Syracuse University, grew up playing both men's and women's lacrosse. She also played on the McKinney Lacrosse Club from third grade to 12th grade. The MLC is a nonprofit with competitive lacrosse teams for students in grades one to 12.
