Mayor Harry LaRosiliere and David McCall III reopened McCall Plaza in Historic Downtown Plano with the help of local businesses and residents Friday evening.

The plaza, named after the former Plano mayor David McCall, is now open to the public, and a new stage will offer a platform for performances ranging from live music to dance.

"Art is not only about visual art but also about performing arts," LaRosiliere said. "This stage is really another component of our arts district in downtown Plano."

David McCall III said his late father would have loved to know that he was being honored with a stage venue in his name—a place where people can hear music being played throughout the years.

"If dad would have known, he would have loved this," he said. "Music was a love of his."

A performance by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Bluegrass Band was scheduled for 6 p.m. after the opening.

LegacyTexas Bank announced a donation of $10,000 for McCall Plaza to promote live music events to be hosted at the plaza in the near future.

Local artists and local arts groups, such as the Art Centre Theatre, Chamberlain Ballet, Collin County Ballet Theatre, Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra, Edge Dance & Performing Arts, Plano Children’s Theatre, Plano Community Band, Plano Dance Theatre, Plano International Festival, Plano Metropolitan Ballet and SHINE Plano will perform throughout the day on Saturday.

The final performance of the celebratory weekend will be by blues musicians Joe and Vicki Price at 7 p.m on Saturday.
