A Hutto senior housing community on Carl Stern Boulevard is nearly complete, according to city officials.

Hutto Development Services Director Helen Ramirez said residents have already begun to move into The Trails at Carmel Creek, a 61-unit apartment complex for adults age 55 and older.

The community features a multipurpose room, an auditorium, a business center, a fitness center and a laundry facility as well as programs that encourage health, wellness and social interaction, according to the community’s website.

A project to extend Carl Stern west of FM 685 and link it to SH 130, which was financed by the developer behind the senior housing development, is also nearing completion, according to Hutto city engineers. The portion from FM 685 to Carmel Creek was completed in July, and city staffers expect the rest of the project to be complete by this summer. The portion under construction involves building a new connector to SH 130, which is being led by the Texas Department of Transportation.
