The Georgetown ISD board of trustees were presented with the first draft of a rezoning plan for the 2017-18 school year at Monday night's school board meeting.

The continued growth of the Georgetown area and the addition of Wagner Middle School led to the need for rezoning school boundaries, said Bryan Hallmark, assistant superintendent of operations and school leadership.

Hallmark also said the plan will allow the district to create a high school feeding pattern and that rezoning will need to be revisited every three to four years to keep up with growth.

He said the plan is still in its initial stages, but school officials are working to keep elementary cohorts together and create clear feeder patterns.

The current draft will allow the district to get through the next three years with its existing elementary schools options and through the 2023-24 school year with middle school campuses, Hallmark said.

The district will host two public information sessions after the start of the year.

  • Jan. 5 at 7 p.m., Georgetown High School

  • Jan. 10 at 7 p.m., East View High School

Trustees also encouraged providing feedback on the district's website.

At the Jan. 17 meeting a final recommendation plan will be presented to the board.
