The Williamson County Commissioners Court appointed Republican candidate Laura Barker to serve as County Court at Law No. 2 judge at its June 7 meeting.

The position has been vacant since former Judge Tim Wright resigned after pleading guilty to federal weapons charges in August 2015.

Barker won the Republican primary run-off against Warren Oliver Waterman on May 24 and will not face a Democratic opponent in the November election.

Barker said her top priorities include being vigilant against violent crime in the area and maintaining an adequate and caring veterans court.

Barker will be sworn in to office June 17 at 2 p.m. in the 277th District Courtroom at the Williamson Country Justice Center, 405 MLK St., Georgetown.
