The city of Georgetown will begin repair work to the historic Shotgun House, located at 801 West St., on May 9.

The work includes replacing deteriorating siding and minor roof repairs as well as repairs to the door and screen door, and the completion of exterior painting.

The structure is home to educational events for the Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association, which teaches the history of the African American community in Georgetown. The house represents the types of homes common in the African American neighborhood known as the Ridge west of the Square, according to a city news release.

The city purchased the Shotgun House in 1996 and completed a restoration project in 2001, according to the release.

The repairs are expected to take three months to complete.
