The Austin ISD board of trustees is scheduled to vote on a policy on Feb. 29 that may open the door to a sponsorship and new name for the AISD Performing Arts Center, or PAC, in the Mueller development.

On Feb. 8, the board received a briefing from the PAC Naming Committee that outlined the possibility of procuring a sponsorship name from sources including individuals, associations and corporations. Committee members said the naming sponsorship can generate additional revenue for the district and help bolster its fine arts program.

It was the possibility of a corporate-named PAC that raised concerns for Trustee Edmund Gordon. He said he is opposed to using a corporation’s name for advertising purposes, citing “Marlboro Room: at the PAC" as an example.

Trustees Paul Saldaña and Ann Teich also said they have mixed feelings about the PAC being named after a corporation.

The PAC opened in January 2015.
