Leander ISD plans to host several workshops for parents to attend to learn about the district's human sexuality curriculum.

The district's curriculum is taught through Austin LifeGuard, which provides abstinence-based curriculum presentations to students in grades seven through nine as part of the health curriculum. All ALG content has been reviewed by the Leander ISD School Health Advisory Council.

Workshops are intended to provide parents with tips for communicating with their children in grades seven through nine about human sexuality. Workshops include opportunities for parents to review the curriculum and receive statistics from health officials, as well as ask questions of Austin LifeGuard and LISD staff, according to LISD.

Parents can preview the ALG curriculum by submitting a preview request form.

Student participation in ALG curriculum is voluntary and parents or legal guardians may choose to opt out their student from the lesson through a written request, according to LISD. The district will provide parent notification letters about the curriculum three weeks prior to instruction.

Workshops will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall at the following dates and locations:

• Feb. 10—Vista Ridge High School

• April 13—Canyon Ridge Middle School

• May 4—Henry Middle School
