Unofficial final results of the Sept. 6 special election runoff for the Pflugerville City Council Place 2 seat indicate Jeff Marsh as the winner of the race, defeating Jim McDonald.

Marsh garnered 453 votes, or 55.78 percent of the 812 votes cast, and McDonald received 359 votes, or 44.21 percent of the votes.

"It's been a hell of a race," said Marsh of his win. "I just want everyone to know I'm real excited and ready to get started."

The runoff was called by Pflugerville City Council on Aug. 15 after votes from the Aug. 6 election were canvassed, and they determined Marsh and McDonald won the most votes of the four candidates who ran. However, neither Marsh nor McDonald garnered more than 50 percent of the vote Aug. 6, which was needed to name a winner.

The Place 2 seat opened up earlier this year when Council Member Brad Marshall announced he would be running for mayor.

Marsh, who runs his family's Pflugerville-based construction company, ran on a platform of maintaining the status quo, stating that the current council has done a good job, but he would like to focus on public health and public safety. McDonald, an information technology professional, looked to point the council in the direction of more "innovative growth."

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
