According to unofficial final results, Danny Thomas will serve another term as Travis County constable for Precinct 1—barring a challenge from a third-party candidate in the general election in November. Thomas received 1,840 total votes, or 65.02 percent of votes, and opponent Janie Serna received 990 votes, or 34.98 percent.

Thomas was unavailable for comment on election night.

The total number of ballots cast in the runoff race totaled 2,830, according to the Travis County Clerk Elections Division.

According to unofficial early voting results released May 24, Danny Thomas is ahead in the Democratic primary runoff for the Travis County constable Precinct 1 seat. Thomas received 1,042 votes, or 69.47 percent of the early voting tallies, and Janie Serna received 458 votes, or 30.53 percent of the vote, during early voting.

“Not a lot of people came out; that’s all I can tell you,” Serna said. “It is what it is. The people who did come out, their voice was counted.”

About 9.85 percent of registered Travis County voters cast ballots in the March 1 primary election. Only 1.26 percent of eligible voters participated in early voting for the May 24 primary runoff, according to the Travis County Clerk's website.

Serna said she noticed turnout was low compared with the March 1 primary election. She said she remains positive despite the large margin of votes she would need to overcome to pull ahead.

The candidates edged out third-place candidate Rick Schumacher in the primary election March 1. Schumacher received 4,070 votes, or 25.22 percent of the tallies, in the race. Serna and Thomas each claimed 37 percent of votes, with Serna claiming a plurality, or the most votes but not a majority of votes, by 21 tallies.

According to her website, Serna is a master peace officer and certified jailer. She has lived in Travis County’s Precinct 1 for 17 years, her website states.

Thomas has served as constable for Travis County Precinct 1 for the past eight years. Prior to his election to the post, he was an Austin City Council member for six years, according to his website.

He could not be reached for comment after early voting totals were released at 7 p.m. May 24.

A Republican did not file for candidacy in the race, so the victor would be the presumptive officeholder after the November general election barring a challenge from a third-party candidate.

All results are unofficial until canvassed.
