Texas residents can now bid for the chance to be the only person with "AUSTIN" on their license plate.

Austin-based company, My Plates is auctioning off 50 different unique license plates throughout the month of November.

My Plates President Steve Farrar said he wanted to offer something special to Texas residents.

“We wanted to open this auction up for all Texans to have the opportunity to secure one of these great [license] plate messages,” Farrar said.

Some of the other specialty plates available include "Cubbies", "1976" and "TEXAS-01". In 2013, the "HOUSTON" specialty plate sold for $25,000, "DALLAS" sold in 2014 for $7,250 and a "12THMAN" sold for $115,000 in 2013, according to a news release from My Plates.

Opening bids for each plate begin at $500 and bids on the "AUSTIN" plate are currently up to $2,400.

The winner of any of the 50 plates will have ownership of the plate name for five years, with the first chance to renew the plate following. Plates can also be transferred from vehicles or sold, the release stated.

In November 2009, My Plates became the sole vendor of specialized plates in Texas. The company also auctions these specialty plates to help raise money for the Texas General Revenue Fund, which supports education, roadway improvement and other growth. To date, My Plates has added $47 million to the state's general fund, Farrar said.
