H-E-B plans for future growth

Land is being cleared to make way for a new H-E-B location in Magnolia.

H-E-B confirmed Dec. 4 the new store is expected to open at Tamina Road and FM 1488 in late fall 2016. Property builder Williams Development & Construction Inc. also confirmed the construction of the store on a 15-acre site.

Another H-E-B location will be constructed on an 18-acre site along FM 1488 between FM 149 and Spur 149 in Magnolia. A construction timeline has not yet been announced due to ongoing construction of an overpass at FM 1488 and FM 149, according to H-E-B.

The second H-E-B location will be part of a 142-acre mixed-use project known as Magnolia Commons, which will be developed by Austin-based Stratus Properties Inc., Development Partner Jon Andrus said.

“We’re waiting on the two things to get finished [to begin the project]: the widening of FM 1488 [with the overpass] and the city to put in the water and sewer mains,” Andrus said. “Both have been progressed, and they aren’t finished. We’re still on hold until we get those further down the road.”

Andrus said he anticipates a possible ground breaking of Magnolia Commons by the end of 2016 with a target opening date of mid- to late 2017.
