A public forum Dec. 1 could be the last opportunity for the Hays CISD community to have a say in the district’s rezoning efforts for the 2016-17 school year.

HCISD will draw new attendance zones for the 2016-17 school year, when its sixth middle school will open its doors.

The HCISD Attendance Boundary Rezoning Committee met Nov. 17 to discuss plans for drawing new maps. So far four different drafts have been shown to the public. It is expected the committee will make drafts Nos. 5 and 6 available for viewing Dec. 1. The rezoning committee could present its final recommendation to the board of trustees for adoption on Dec. 14.

Among the school zones that have been in discussion and could be affected by the new maps are Elm Grove and Buda elementary schools as well as Dahlstrom and Barton middle schools. High school zones are not under review.

The public forum will be held at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 in the Kunkel Room of the Buda Elementary School upper campus.
