1. Gattis School Road improvementsGattis School Road improvements


The city is undergoing a corridor study for the length of Gattis School Road from Mays Street to Red Bud Lane. Because of the scope of the project and funding limitations, the project will be constructed in phases. Currently planned projects for the corridor include adding right-turn lanes on northbound Red Bud at Gattis School and westbound Gattis School at Mays. In 2014 the city completed a right-turn lane on northbound Mays at Gattis School.

2. La Frontera roadwork complete


Round Rock completed improvements to the roadway conditions and road surfaces of portions of Parker Road, Kouri Avenue and Sundance Parkway in the La Frontera development Nov. 1. The city reconstructed and rehabilitated the roads for longevity and driving ease.

3. Carl Stern Boulevard Carl Stern Boulevard


This project will extend Carl Stern Boulevard west of FM 685 and link it to SH 130. The road will be built by the developer of Carmel Creek, which is a mixed-use development through which the road will pass. Hutto will reimburse the developer for the cost of the road construction. The portion from FM 685 to Carmel Creek was completed in July. The remaining connection to the SH 130 feeder road is under construction.

4. Pfennig Lane and East Pflugerville Parkway lane closures


The city of Pflugerville will temporarily close lanes on the roads to work on utilities in the area. Though there may be lane closures, the roads themselves will not be worked on.

5. Diverging Diamond Interchange


Work is underway on a new style of intersection called a diverging diamond at the University Boulevard/FM 1431 overpass of I-35 to alleviate traffic congestion in Round Rock. The new interchange will direct University left-turning traffic to the opposite side of the road for a short time. Workers have entered phase 3 of 5, but have experienced some delays pushing back the completion until the winter.

Funding sources: federal highway funds (80 percent), Texas Department of Transportation (20 percent)



6. Howard Lane


This project will extend Howard Lane just outside of Pflugerville from Cameron Road to the SH 130 access road. It will also widen the two-lane portion of Harris Branch Parkway into a four-lane divided arterial to Gregg Lane.

Cost: $20 million
Funding sources: city of Austin, Travis County, TxDOT, private developer



7. Downtown improvements Downtown improvements


This project will widen Mays Street from the railroad bridge south of downtown to the Brushy Creek bridge as well as realign Main Street where it intersects with Mays. The project will also focus on road improvements such as a new center left-turn lane on Mays in downtown. Round Rock Avenue is now permanently closed between Blair Street and Mays. Underground utility work continues on Round Rock Avenue and Blair Street where a round-a-bout will be installed.

Cost: $13.2 million
Funding sources: city of Round Rock, federal grant funds
