The first universally accessible playground in Sugar Land opened to the public Oct. 23 at First Colony Athletic Park.

“The new playground replaced the former playground at First Colony Athletic Park and provides a place where all children can play together and foster friendships in a welcoming, safe and accessible environment,” said Doug Adolph, assistant communications director for Sugar Land.

The 5,500-square-foot playground includes new equipment that is equipped with longer platforms and ramps, Adolph said. Other playground amenities, such as bonded rubber surfacing, allows for easier access by those in wheelchairs and children with disabilities who need a more even surface to access the equipment.
