The Travis County Commissioners Court unanimously voted Oct. 20 to reinstate a ban on outdoor burning in unincorporated areas of the county.

The new burn ban will expire in mid-November, according to the county. Travis County Fire Marshal Hershel Lee said there are resources available for residents who want to learn how to be safe during wildfires.

“Protecting your home from wildfire needs to be a lifestyle,” Lee said, adding residents should not wait to do something until a wildfire occurs.

On Oct. 14, Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape issued a disaster declaration in light of a wildfire known as the Hidden Pines Fire.

The previous Travis County burn ban was scheduled to expire on Oct. 21, unless action was taken.
