A California-based plastics company is expanding to Pflugerville and promises to create 100 new local jobs during the next five years, the Pflugerville Community Development Corp. announced Oct. 14.

On Oct. 13, Pflugerville City Council approved a performance agreement between the PCDC and Medway Plastics Corp., which provides custom plastic injection molding. Medway is slated to open a manufacturing facility as well as a research and development laboratory in the former FedEx shipping facility off Royston Lane and is expected to take possession of the building in November, PCDC Interim Executive Director Amy Madison said.

"We've been working with the company for slightly over a year to find the right spot and they have found it," Madison said. "The site gives them their needed manufacturing space and room for expansion. It also allows them to bring their research and development component earlier than expected and that will be a big win for us as well."

The PCDC's performance agreement offers Medway a $50,000 relocation grant and $1,000 per job created, up to $100,000, Madison said.

According to a PCDC statement, Pflugerville could be considered as a future location for Medway headquarters.

“Our decision to expand Medway Plastics Corp. in Pflugerville was very strategic and is a direct result of the strong support we received from Amy Madison and the PCDC team,” Medway Plastics Corp. President Tom Hutchinson Jr. said in a statement. “It is clear that Pflugerville is a forward-looking, business-friendly city. Medway Plastics can now tap into new markets in Texas and the U.S.  By combining this great location with our superior products, we are well positioned for future success.”

Medway committed to hiring a minimum of 20 employees with an average salary of $40,000 per year within the next year and the PCDC plans to host a local recruitment fair to attract qualified employees, according to a PCDC statement.

“With the addition of Medway Plastics, Pflugerville is gaining a well-respected company and world leader in the plastic injection molding industry,” Madison said. “Pflugerville’s workforce has the education, skills and experience Medway Plastics needs to fill top-notch manufacturing, research and development jobs, and to help the company successfully enter into new markets.”
