Frisco City Secretary Jenny Page has verified enough signatures on the alcohol petition and will present it to city council next month for a May election.

The local option alcohol petition was submitted Aug. 21 by political action committee Frisco Committee for Economic Growth with more than 15,000 signatures. Page certified 9,943 signatures, according to the city on Sept. 24.

The number of certified signatures needs to exceed 9,789 to call an election.

The committee retained Texas Petition Strategies, a petition company, to seek signatures for their petition in June. The committee planned to submit the petition by June 17 to make a November election, however they missed the deadline.

Page will present the certified signatures to city council at its regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 6. At that time council will consider calling for an election on May 7.

The committee said they want an election to expand the sale of alcoholic beverages to include hard liquor sales.

Frisco has no liquor stores within its city limits, unlike surrounding cities including Plano, The Colony and Little Elm.
