Motorists traveling along 15th Street near downtown Plano over Labor Day weekend can expect detours as construction crews relocate a six-ton DART signal cabinet from the south side of 15th Street to its new location in Haggard Park. Train operations to this station will also be discontinued during the operation.

According to a city of Plano news release, 15th Street will be closed to through traffic beginning around midnight Sept. 5. A crane will be set up in the middle of the roadway to lift the DART cabinet off of the foundation and place it on a transport vehicle to be moved to adjacent Haggard Park. The crane will then be moved and set up at a second location that will allow the cabinet to be lifted and set onto the new foundation, according to a city news release.
The equipment in the cabinet controls the DART warning and crossing arm devices at several intersections, including 14th, 15th and 18th Streets. Efforts will be made to minimize the disruption to downtown area traffic and DART patrons during this relocation, according to the release.
Once the cabinet is attached to the new foundation, electrical crews will work to reconnect approximately 100 cables to restore the functionality of the signal system. The rewiring will be performed continuously until the system is ready to be tested on Monday prior to reopening 15th Street.
Parking will also be limited in the parking lot at Haggard Park during this time.
• Barricades will be placed along 15th Street adjacent to the rail crossing, allowing motorists to have access to the all of on-street parking along both sides of 15th Street.
• Downtown customers travelling westbound on 15th Street will be able to turn left, right or make a U-turn at the east side of the rail crossing. The parking spaces along the south side of 15thStreet can be accessed via the U-turn movement.
• DART riders traveling to or from the 15th Street and Parker Road stations will be transported to and from the Bush light rail station via buses.
